Full bodied, with nippy acidity and rich flavour

SHG Finca El Portezuelo

Situated among the Llamatepec Mountain Range in western El Salvador, Finca Portezuelo is an active coffee farm growing specialty coffee. The farm is also a nature preserve that offers tours, ecotourism, and breathtaking views.  Doña Elsa Luz Avila Magana family, proudly follows the tradition of her ancestors as being responsible for this garden oasis of over 100 hectares of gorgeous coffee nurtured by the shade of 'Inga' trees.

El Portezuelo was once part of the lands under Dr. Francisco Magana's supervision, grandfather of Doña Elsa Luz.  Rich drinkable spring water is abundant at the slopes of El Portezuelo, flowing down from the untouched forest atop the hills, contributing to a clean cup in this washed coffee.  Strolling deep inside this centennial tree formation, it is very common to catch a glimpse of the well known butterfly, "morpho peleides" (common blue morph) and the very unusual species of "morpho polyphemus" (a morpho with semi translucent white wings).

This coffee is also boasts a Rainforest Alliance certification. To be RFA certified implies standards that are intended to protect the environment and the rights of workers. This certification allows the farmers to have a sustainable farm-management system, control costs, increase efficiency, improve crop quality, and maintain wildlife habitat.
The certification ensures consumers that the Rainforest Alliance certified coffee that they drink supports sustainable supply and it also demonstrates the importance of responsible coffee sourcing.
